between cultures and cities

I want the world to see us as equals

I want the people to look behind the color of your skin

I want the neighbors and the elders to see you through my eyes

I want the teachers to meet you without prejudice in their heads

I want the bosses and the professors not to immediately question your abilities

You are sweet and empathetic

You are intelligent and kind

You are warm and generous

I want them to listen to your stories

I want them to see the sparkle in your eyes when you speak

I want them to feel all your worries

I want them to look at you as everything except weak

You are a loving brother to your siblings

You are a caring son to your parents

You are a supportive nephew to your aunts and uncles

I want you to not have to leave this country when you struggle to find your place

I want you to feel comfortable and equally valued

I want you to be free from all the hurdles you take every day

I want you to get the help you so desperately need

You are a human

just like me

You are neither scary nor dangerous

You could never be

But there is no place on earth where we could have it like this. Or do you know such thing?

If so, show me and I’ll leave my country behind in a heartbeat.
